Awaiting The Election-Maybe

The Iranian Air Force is scheduled to launch major military exercises Thursday, adding to speculation that they are either preparing for an Israeli strike, or less probably preparing a preemptive mission.

The biggest guess is the relationship of the US election to the aforementioned actions. The Israeli leadership and defense community do not trust an Obama administration to deal effectively with Iran. Whether they are correct or not, the perception counts. As they have resounded the phrase “strategic independence”, the likely Obama victory brings armageddon closer. The Iranians, on the other hand are hoping for such an outcome and will likely be more immediately pliable with Obama in power, at least superficially. Teheran and Tel Aviv will be watching the final debate tonight, looking to confirm their plans.
